Hebrews 1:1-2 (NIVUK)
1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.
And here’s the but alluded to yesterday! In the past God spoke through his prophets in all sorts of ways and times, BUT NOW he speaks through something even better. Now he speaks through his Son, Jesus. No longer does he send an intermediary, but one of the family whose words carry weight because they are family. This is not someone doing a favour, or someone ‘paid’ to speak, but someone involved, someone who shares the passion and vision. More than that, this is the heir, the one who is in some respect going to take over the family business, someone who shares the Father’s authority. And more than that too, this Jesus is the one through whom God made the universe. Jesus is the ‘Word’ of God’s ‘Let there be…’ Jesus intimately shares God’s heart, and speaks with authority and power.
Jesus speak, your servant is listening.
