And God spoke all these words: 2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 3 “You shall have no other gods before me.
When God makes his covenant with the people and gives the Ten Commandments, he begins by appealing to the same two aspects of his himself, his identity as ‘The Lord’ and their experience of his consistent salvation purpose in rescuing them from slavery. They can enter into a relationship with him because this is the god he is.
