Hebrews 7:11 (NIVUK)
11 If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood – and indeed the law given to the people established that priesthood – why was there still need for another priest to come, one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron?
A look at the news or a moment of honest self-reflection, and I think we’d all agree that humanity is flawed. Despite our best efforts and good intentions, we are unable to get life right. We might have odd moments, but we all get lost or mess up at some point. In the Old Testament, the Priests were those who were to represent humanity before God, but as fellow humans, they too were flawed, and like us, unable to put things right. This is why God needed to send his son as a different kind of priest, in order to represent us and to rescue us.
Thank you Jesus for your willingness to come for us to succeed where we fail.
