Bible Notes

Hebrews 7:15-17 (16.04.24)

Hebrews 7:15-17
15 And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, 16 one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. 17 For it is declared:
‘You are a priest for ever,
in the order of Melchizedek.’

One of the issues raised when people talk about modernising the House of Lords is that a number of its members are there not because they have the qualities required rather than the skills and wisdom needed as they are hereditary peers – they have the seat because of who they are descended from. Hebrews makes the same point about the Aaronic priests, they were appointed to represent the people before God on the basis of whose offspring they were, rather than because they had the ability required. Jesus, however, is not such a priest, this accusation can’t be levelled at him. Instead he is a priest because of his qualities, here is indestructible life is noted. Because he is God, because he was raised from the grave and lives eternally, he is able to achieve salvation for us.

Thank you Jesus that you used your wisdom, talents and life for our benefit, not your own.
