Hebrews 9:15 (NIVUK)
15 For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance – now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.

Jesus came to bring about God’s promises to his people, but what is this promised eternal inheritance? We need to look back, back to the promises made to Abraham, to Moses and David, the promise that he would lead Abraham to a land for himself, that he would make his descendants into a great nation, and that through them he would bless the world. All these promises find their focus and fulfilment in Christ, Abraham’s descendant. Through him comes not just a single country, but God’s Kingdom in all its wonder and beauty, where all is good and right. Through him comes the chance to be a part of God’s family. Through him we are transformed and called to love the world, inviting it to also be a part of it, a relationship that begins now and lasts forever. This is what the Old pointed to but could not achieve.

Father, thank you that we are recipients of your YES in Christ. Through the power of your Spirit, help us to live out our part in your family and draw others into your blessing.
