ASCENSION DAY
Acts 1:7-9 (NIVUK)
7 [Jesus] said to them: ‘It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’
9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
As Joe pointed out on Sunday, it’s Ascension Day today, and so we’re stepping out of John 21 for a moment to remind us that just as Jesus called the disciples to go and be his witnesses, he calls us to do the same, and the church, until he returns. The end of verse 9 caught my attention, at this time Jesus is hidden from our sight, we live and work by faith and through the Spirit, but one day he will return in all his glory. Let’s give everything we can until that day!
Spirit, we may not be able to see Jesus directly anymore, but through our faith, may others see him in us.
