Hebrews 12:11-13 (NIVUK)
11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
12 Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. 13 ‘Make level paths for your feet,’ so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.

If you put money into a savings account, at the time you have nothing to show for it, if anything it could seem like a time of loss. In time, however, this loss is converted to gain as you receive interest on it and make money which you can spend. Something similar happens when God leads us through struggle, taking it and using it as an opportunity to invest in our character. In time, this investment is converted to profit as we get a return in the depth of our faithfulness to God and sense of wholeness or contentment. In a sense God takes our suffering from it draws our healing.

Lord, help me to develop a long term view, so I am willing to invest in you rather than simply live for the now.
