Genesis 1:27 (NIVUK)
27 So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
On Sunday we thought about how God is a community, the family of Father, Son and Spirit, each member of which has their own identity and tasks, within a unity of will, mission and divinity. This means we shouldn’t be surprised if congregations and individuals with them show different aspects of God and take on different roles for him. Today’s verse demonstrates this from a different angle, implying that his image as a united community is also expressed within our make up as different sexes within one humanity – the New Testament develops this to consider how marriage can reflect God.
Father, Son and Spirit, help us to point to you in our relationships with each other.
