Bible Notes

1 Samuel 17:57-58 (25.06.21)

1 Samuel 17:57-58
57 As soon as David returned from killing the Philistine, Abner took him and brought him before Saul, with David still holding the Philistine’s head.
58 “Whose son are you, young man?” Saul asked him.
David said, “I am the son of your servant Jesse of Bethlehem.”

Reading these verses, my mind cannot help but go forward to the opening chapter of Matthew. Here, Matthew outlines Jesus’ family tree, and in verses 5-6 we read, ‘5 Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse, 6 and Jesse the father of King David.‘ Jesus is a descendent of Jesse and David, they shared DNA. I wonder what Jesus inherited from them? In what ways do David’s faith and life point to the faith and life of Jesus?

Thank you Father that we have been adopted into this same family! May our lives also point towards Jesus.
