1 John 3:19-22 (25.11.21)

1 John 3:19-22
19 This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: 20 If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. 21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him.

This decision to choose for others, worked out in our actions, is a tough decision. Easy to have good intentions, but hard to follow through. But here is where God’s love shines. We will all get this wrong, there will be times when we give into our old self-centredness, and times when we mean to love others but fail to follow through in our actions for all sorts of reasons. The good news is that God’s grace is bigger than our love, and he won’t condemn us but forgive us, pick us up and encourage us to try again (after all, isn’t that what parents do?) And if we do go for it, he doesn’t just leave us to it, but will give us the resources we need if we ask him to.

What do you need today in order to help you love others? Pluck up the courage to ask, your Father won’t let you down.
