Philippians 3:10-11 (NIVUK)
10 I want to know Christ – yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. 12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
A bonus verse to take us beyond Sunday’s passage! We are in Christ and whatever is true of him is true of us (remember the Russian dolls). We share in his death and resurrection, and his sufferings and his power, as he takes us with him. Verse 12 adds further dynamic; it is Jesus who has achieved this, all that is needed from us is faith, but this doesn’t mean that we don’t have a part to play. It’s a bit like being on a tandem. Jesus is pedalling, and that’s all we need, but it’s so much better if the passenger pedals as well!
Spirit, help me to see the Kingdom of God in my everyday life today, and to strive towards it.
