Hebrews 7:4-5 (27.09.22)

Hebrews 7:4-5 (NIVUK)
4 Just think how great [Melchizedek] was: even the patriarch Abraham gave him a tenth of the plunder! 5 Now the law requires the descendants of Levi who become priests to collect a tenth from the people – that is, from their fellow Israelites – even though they also are descended from Abraham.

Abraham shows his estimation of Melchizedek by paying him homage. The writer of Hebrews takes this to make a powerful point: Melchizedek was a greater priest than any of the Levites that followed, because they paid homage to Melchizedek through Abraham as his descendents, and Melchizedek points to Jesus, who is greater still!

Jesus, as God’s Son, you are the ultimate go-between for us and the Father. Thank you that you are willing to take on this role for us!
