Hebrews 7:11 (28.09.22)

Hebrews 7:11 (NIVUK)
11 If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood – and indeed the law given to the people established that priesthood – why was there still need for another priest to come, one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron?

A problem for early Jewish Christians was the question of why Jesus was needed if they already had the Law and priests. The trouble with the Law, however, was that although it pointed to a relationship with God, and revealed the kind of life God wanted us to live, it wasn’t able to help us live it, only condemn us because we can’t live that way. Another go-between is needed who can bring us together rather than hold us apart. The writer of Hebrews finds this in Melchizedek. Jesus isn’t a new idea, but was always planned for, he is continuing the of this other priesthood separate from the Law and Levites.

Jesus, thank you for not condemning us, but saving us.
