Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Genesis 18:17-19 (14.11.22)

Genesis 18:17-19 (NIVUK)
17 Then the Lord said, ‘Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do? 18 Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him. 19 For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.’

I don’t go around telling everyone my dreams and plans – they are private, my business. I share them with those who need to know, and those I love. I find it very telling that at the start of this episode, we have this peak into God’s thoughts. God decides to share his plans with Abraham because of the relationship he has with him. It reminds me of Jesus talking to his disciples in John 15:15, ‘15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.‘ The very fact that God shares his plans with us, even if they are difficult or we don’t always like them, is good news; it tells us he loves us.

Thank you Father for the relationship we share with you, that you love us and are prepared to share you dreams and plans with us.
