⁸ Once when Zechariah’s division was on duty and he was serving as priest before God, ⁹ he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to go into the temple of the Lord and burn incense. ¹⁰ And when the time for the burning of incense came, all the assembled worshippers were praying outside.

There is a sense of Zechariah stepping out of his daily routine to deliberately come into God’s Presence. This is a special moment to be savoured. In some ways this is like the times when we gather. We step out of our daily lives to come together into his Presence. These are special times, times when we come to meet with God, as is this moment at the start of the day.

Father, we come to meet you. Open our hearts to your Presence.
