Matthew 1:18 (NIVUK)
18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: his mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
Matthew wants to make it clear who he’s talking about from the start. The baby of the Christmas story is ‘the Christ’, God’s chosen one, God’s promised leader, the saviour of his people, promised and looked forward to throughout the Old Testament. This baby is no ordinary baby, but conceived by the Holy Spirit. The baby is human and God, unique. By nature human and God, his objective is the same, to reunite humanity and God.
Jesus, there is none like you!
