John 1:14 (NIVUK)
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
I’m not sure if we should have favourite Bible verses or not – but if I’m allowed to, this would have to be one of them! It’s certainly one that has had a significant impact on me. The idea that God should be born as one of us and come and live his life alongside us, in our neighbourhood as The Message puts it, is such a dramatic and distinctive idea – I wonder if sometimes we’ve lost sight of how unique this is to Christianity as we’re now so familiar with the idea. It has a lot to say about mission to – are we willing to lay aside our lives as Jesus did, and move ‘into the neighbourhoods’ of others to share our faith with them in ways that connect to and makes sense of their lives?
Thank you Jesus that through your Spirit we can experience you in our lives today, just as the disciples did with Jesus walking amongst them. Open us to your presence.
