Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

1 John 2:3-6 (09.02.23)

1 John 2:3-6 (NIVUK)
3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

Again, this is not an instruction – to be a Christian you must do everything that Jesus did and obey everything he said. No, this is an observation – as our relationship with Jesus develops, the more we will understand him and his ways, and the more we will inevitably find ourselves imitating him. The closer we get, the more his Spirit is working in us and will work in us. It’s that we can recognise those who know Jesus by the way they ‘look like him’, rather than to know Jesus, you must strive to copy him.

Thank you Jesus that through your Spirit you’re at work in me! Help me to not resist but work with him.
