Genesis 22:1-2 (NIVUK)
1 Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, ‘Abraham!’
‘Here I am,’ he replied.
2 Then God said, ‘Take your son, your only son, whom you love – Isaac – and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain that I will show you.’
We’ll come back to God’s request of Abraham later this week. For now, what strikes me about these opening verses is Abraham’s quick response to God. It reminds me of Samuel responding to God in the Temple as a boy, only Abraham immediately knows who it is that is speaking. Abraham obviously knows God, he recognises his voice. This speaks of relationship and time spent together.
