Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Genesis 22:4-5 (14.02.23)

Genesis 22:4-5 (NIV)
On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. [5] He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you. ”

Inevitably as Christians, the phrase ‘third day’ resonates with us, bringing to mind Jesus’ resurrection on the third day, when God turned a bleak evil event into the triumph of good over evil and life over death. Maybe this bleak story is not beyond redemption? The fact that Abraham says he’s off to worship also reminds us that in someway, God is present in these events.

Father, Abraham seems to have hope in this situation that can have only come through faith in you. Help us to discover the hope you offer us in even the bleakest of times.
