Genesis 22:7-8 (NIVUK)
…As the two of them went on together, 7 Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, ‘Father?’
‘Yes, my son?’ Abraham replied.
‘The fire and wood are here,’ Isaac said, ‘but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?’
8 Abraham answered, ‘God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.’ And the two of them went on together.
This chapter is strewn with phrases and ideas which resonate with the life and mission of Jesus. Verse 8 gives us another, with Abraham’s statement that God will provide a sacrifice. Hebrews 9-10 spells this out for us, Jesus is the perfect sacrifice that God provides who deals with our sins and brokenness, ‘we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all‘ (Hebrews 10:10)
Thank you Jesus, that you gave yourself for us so that our sins could be forgiven and we could be brought into your family.
