Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Matthew 16:13 (20.03.23)

Matthew 16:13 (NIVUK)
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’

Have you ever noticed how Jesus regularly enters conversations about faith not with a statement or an assertion of the truth, but with a question? A question expresses interest in the other person and their opinions. In turn, this opens up the possibility of relationship and conversation, whereas statements and assertions tend to shut this down. A question also encourages people to think about and ‘buy into’ the topic. Jesus’ question remains a good one today; people might not be so interested in talking about church, but most people respect or are intrigued by Jesus.

Spirit, help me to engage others this week in conversation about Jesus and what he means to them, prompt me when a good opportunity arises.
