Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Matthew 16:13-15 (22.03.23)

Matthew 16:13-15 (NIVUK)
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’
14 They replied, ‘Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’
15 ‘But what about you?’ he asked. ‘Who do you say I am?’

After hearing what others think about him, Jesus gets personal, ‘who do you think I am?’ It’s another of those questions that leaps off the page and demands an answer from us, who do you think Jesus is, who do I think he is? Although our understanding of Jesus is influenced by the thoughts of others, it is our responsibility to decide for ourselves. Over recent Sundays various answers have been suggested, the media and the opinions of others will give further ideas, but you have to choose for yourself. I would encourage you to go back to scripture itself and try and read it, yes aware of these suggestions, but trying to be open to the Jesus it actually portrays. You might find you’re surprised.

Jesus, you are…
