Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

John 4:34-38 (19.05.23)

John 4:34-38 (NIVUK)
39 Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, ‘He told me everything I’ve ever done.’ 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. 41 And because of his words many more became believers.
42 They said to the woman, ‘We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Saviour of the world.’

In Wednesday night’s Bible Study, we noted how often John talks about people sharing their testimony of Jesus and the impact of this on others; it is one of the key ways in which Jesus’ message spreads. We also noted how often in John, this involves women. Why is this significant? In Jesus’ day, sadly women were often simply dismissed. John is making the point that to Jesus they matter, all people matter, and everyone has an important part to play. This woman’s story changed the lives of those who listened to her, as she introduced them to Jesus.

Sometimes it feels as if I don’t matter, Jesus, that society doesn’t see or value me. Sometimes I don’t. But you do. Thank you that you see me and value me. Help me to give others a sense of their value by sharing your message with them.
