Psalm 119:41 (NIVUK)
41 May your unfailing love come to me, Lord,
your salvation, according to your promise
As we come to the end of this week’s look at the nature of the Bible and God’s Word as revealed in Psalm 119, we come to the image that for me is the source of all the others. The reason that God has a long and faithful history with people, the reason for his instructions and leading, the reason for his giving us wisdom and so on is simple. God loves us. He is the one who made us, who sustains us, longs for a relationship with us, and longs for the best for us. More than that, his love is ‘unfailing love’: it is constant, true, and without mixed motives. There’s an interesting emphasis in this verse; the Psalmist parallels God’s love with his salvation – he saves us because he loves us, and his salvation is as much about bringing us into relationship with him as it is rescuing us from the brokenness of this world.
Father, help me to learn more about your unfailing love with the help of your Spirit, as I read and listen to your Word.
