Bible Notes

Romans 15:4 (17.10.23)

Romans 15:4 (NIVUK)
For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.

Yesterday we thought about how the Parable of the Sower is a message of hope. One way in which we receive and deepen this hope is through scripture. As we read the Bible and absorb its testimony about God’s dealings with his people, it demonstrates and reinforces the message that God has always been for his people and always will be – including us. The Bible tells us the big story about how we were made to be in harmony with God, this beautiful world, and each other, and how this will be restored. This reassures us when we’re in the middle of this process, with its chaos and conflict, that this was not God’s intent for us, and that he is at work to bring about change.

Father, in the chaos of today, there is little that is a firm foundation that we can trust to stand on and find sustaining hope in, but we do have you, and you are enough.
