Hebrews 1:1 (NIVUK)
In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways…
You can probably sense that there is going to be a ‘but’ or ‘therefore’ or ‘and now’ coming up, but let’s not rush ahead! Today notice that the mystery writer of the Letter to the Hebrews says that God has spoken at many times and in various ways. God is not restrained to speaking to us just at church, or just in our quiet times, but speaks at all different times and places. More than that, he is not restricted in how he speaks, he can employ all sorts of means to talk to us, and probably speaks to each of us in different ways at different times. It is a challenge to be open to hearing from God outside ‘the norm’, but let’s try and enter this week being open to hearing God in whatever situations we might find ourselves in.
Father, help me hear you this week as I watch TV, in the church meeting, driving to work, when I’m getting lunch, playing with the children/grandchildren, and as I fall asleep. Help me to be open and expectant.
