Ephesians 5:15-16 (NIVUK)
15 Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

I mentioned on Sunday the motto ‘carpe diem‘ or ‘seize the day’. In its original use, this meant to get the most enjoyment or benefit from every moment. Verse 16 could be taken to mean that, ‘make the most of every situation’, but the context tells us it is something radically different. This is not about self-gratification, but about taking every opportunity to serve God and live his way, the way of love. It is a reminder that God is interested in the whole of our lives, and the whole of our lives can be used to worship him.

What’s on your agenda today? How can you make the most of every moment to live for God and to love those around you?
